Amaou is a registered trademark name for strawberries, with the variety name being "Fukuoka S6". Developed over five years in Fukuoka, it is exclusively produced there. In 2021, it was designated as an export-restricted variety under the Seedling Law. Compared to regular strawberries, Amaou is larger, rounder, and has a deeper red color. It's juicy with a strong sweetness. The name "Amaou" is derived from the initial letters of its characteristics in Japanese: Red (Akai), Round (Marui), Large (Ookii), and Delicious (Umai). The name was chosen in a naming contest held for Fukuoka citizens.
